Regarding Lesson

Try group lessons

Music Group Course is designed to build a musical foundation for beginners 4-6 years of ages. We find that most children learn better in group settings because of its social and interactive nature.

Be there for them

We recommend that the parents attend at least the first 4-6 classes of a child’s private music lessons. A new environment can be tough for children and the presence of a parent will make the child more comfortable. We encourage parents to accompany students to all classes.

Be an observer

While our teachers would be more than happy to receive feedback and comments from you, we request that you reserve your opinions and commends both toward your child and the teacher until the end of the lesson. It is both confusing and counter-productive for the child when different opinions and directions are given during the lesson, please let directions come from the teacher.

Stay connected

One of the most important things you can do as a parent is to stay in touch with your child’s teacher. While our staff would be more than happy to speak to the teacher on your behalf, we encourage that you communicate with the teacher directly.

Regarding Learning

Let your child explore music

The first year that a child plays an instrument is an exploratory year. The goal of a music educator is not to quickly turn a child into a virtuoso, but to help instill the love for music.

Make it a team effort

The best learning environment requires the cooperation of the teacher, the child, and the parents. Attending your child’s classes, knowing what goes on in the class, and learning alongside your child will allow you to better help your child at home. Learn with your child.

Regarding practice

Don't make practicing a chore

Don’t force your child to practice. Instead offer encouragement and show that you are interested in how he/she is doing.

Make it a family activity

Let practicing become an event that involves the whole family. Schedule mini-concerts for your child to perform the songs he/she is learning on a regular basis.

Keep the instrument handy

Children can get really attached to their instrument. It’s important for parents to leave the instrument out, rather than storing it away, so that the child can always have access to it.

Consistency over quantity

Practice is much more effective when it is done consistently. Set a side a time for practicing every day. For Example: it is much better to practice 30 minutes a day, every day, than to practice 2 days a week, 2 hours each day.

Regarding mentality

Don't compare

Every child learns at a different pace. Encourage your child to perform the best he/she can, rather than to compete with other children.

Don't hurry

There are many aspects to music; while you may feel that your child has not improved on the playing the instrument; he/she could be developing other skills such as music theory, ear training, or sight reading.

Enjoy

Encourage your child to enjoy music at a young age is an investment worth while; he/she will go on and become a music lover for the rest of his/her life!
